The Department of Labor and Employment-National Reintegration Center for OFWs (DOLE-NRCO) and the Integrated Seafarers of the Philippines (ISP) have renewed their agreement on holding a business plan competition for returning seafarers.

Director Jeffrey D. Cortazar of the DOLE-NRCO and Captain Gaudencio C. Morales, president of the ISP, signed recently a new Project Implementation Agreement (PIA) renewing the partnership.

Cortazar, in reaffirming the accord, said for this year’s undertaking, the NRCO and ISP will accept business plan proposals even if it is not in line with Agri-business.

“Unlike with the previous guideline of accepting entries, this year’s round of competition will start accepting an ‘ALL-START UP’ business plan proposals from qualified seafarers and their families,” said Cortazar.

The nationwide competition, dubbed ‘From Seafarers to Entrepreneurs: The 2017 NRCO-ISP Business Plan Competition (Harnessing Seafarers’ Capacities for Business Enterprises Development)’, will soon accept business plans, from which judges will choose the best one to win the grand prize amounting to P500,000.00.

The contest, which is on its third year, aims to encourage aspiring entrepreneurs from the seafaring workforce including their families to come up with a business plan which will help develop and harness their potentials to become business owners and eventually contribute to the growth of jobs in their communities.

Last year, a seaman from the Bicol region bagged the “Business Plan of the Year” award, for his Soft Broom Making business.

The launching of this year’s competition is slated on June 6, 2017 in Manila. Other details will soon be posted through the NRCO website and facebook account
